Our beautiful Lake Chicot is 5300 acres.  Approximately 21 miles long and ¾ mile wide and runs through our town.  Lake Chicot is Arkansas's largest natural lake and the largest oxbow lake in North America.  Discovered by Hernando DeSoto and later named by the French explorers, “Chicot” is French for “stumpy”.  DeSoto is said to have been buried in Lake Chicot to keep the native Indians from discovering his death.
Major sport fish are bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, hybrid striper, and largemouth bass.  Several fishing tournaments are held annually.
Night barge tours are available at the Lake Chicot State Park.
